Nomfundo Zamxaka was born in Port Elizabeth 55 years ago and grew up in Alice . She studied in Alice and matriculated there at Phandulwazi Agricultural High School in 1980. She is a proud mother of three sons, eldest Sakhie , Siya and Sine being twins.
She went to Cape College of Education and obtained her Teacher ‘s certificate and started teaching in East London during the year 1983, and in 1985 she converted her Teachers’ certificate to a Secondary Teachers’ Diploma ( STD ) through Vista University.
She again furthered her studies and enrolled with the University of South Africa in 1989, and obtained her BA Degree majored in Education and African languages in 1993. In 1996 she obtained the year study leave with full pay and went to study at the then University of Port Elizabeth known today as the NMMU , and obtained her Bed. Honours degree majored in School Management and Psychology. She returned to her place of work after graduated in 1997. During 1995 she engaged herself with the DSA, where she started selling products for Pres les and AMC on a part time basis. It was during this period that she realize that she was passionate about being in the business.
She has been in many business practises, like being the presiding officer during the voting periods, training and conducting workshops for teachers especially during the various changes of the Educational systems, worked as an Estate Agent and after two years open her own Estate Agency, again tried to further her studies through UNISA for LLB, and couldn’t go any further through financial constraints and only managed to obtain only five courses during the year 2003 up until she registered her own general trading company Midnight Star 234cc T/A Siya-Sine as her Estate Agency collapsed due to ignorance of not knowing the difference between the Chartered Accountant and the Book keepers and her Fidelity Certificate couldn’t be renewed and that prohibited her from operating.
Her Midnight Star 234cc was registered in 2004 and focused in construction related programs, she is a Director with 100% shareholder . In the Built Environment she attended training programs to empower herself in the Industry eg. Project Management , Potholes repairs to mention just a few ,she is also in a Women Empowerment Program by NHBRC in partnership with GIBBS.
She aligned herself with other women in construction and joined the South African Women in Construction (SAWIC) in 2009. She was elected at a Finance and Operations position and later was elected to lead Sawic in the EC Province for the term office 2016 to 2019. She is so passionate about SAWIC and prepared to protect its Constitution and wishes to see all the womenshe leads to independently prosper in this industry.
