I, Sikelelwa Clara Sodlulashe-Mwenze, was born in Alice Eastern Cape and later relocated to Gauteng where I have developed passion for socio-economic development projects, politics and enjoy working with culturally diverse teams. I have served in various leadership positions including public participation and governance, including the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) and South African Women in Construction (SAWIC) for many years.
My involvement at Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2009 -2014 incorporates law making, oversight, governance, public participation, stakeholder negotiations, engagements and project management skills.
Serving as a Member of Provincial Legislature (MPL) in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature was a great achievement that empowered me a lot as I served in the following portfolio committees, Local Government and Housing; Sport, Arts, Recreation and Culture, Health and Social Development and the Petitions Standing Portfolio Committee. I have also previously served in the Gender, Youth and People with Disabilities Standing Committee (GEYODI).. My service as an MPL has allowed me to work closely with communities for the purpose of community development, poverty eradication and economic emancipation through income generating projects that later resulted in my appointment in Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation in 2015 to serve in the portfolio Unit of Strategic Partnerships and Sponsorship to date.
My seasoned passion for community development and health programmes was inspired by my personal volunteering work through the South African Women in Construction (SAWIC) from 2002 where I was later awarded a project as a main contractor to build houses in Palm Springs, Sedibeng region, Gauteng during year 2004 to 2005 and I have gained strength of encouraging other women to join the Build environment industry.
I am a Managing Director of Sikies Transport and Projects PTY LTD that has other four managers working in different portfolios. I have also acquired skills in Administration during my employment at BRELKO Engineering company from 1995 to 2003 as creditors/debtors officer. I have also worked in community development programs through my role as a Research and Development portfolio Chairperson of SAWIC GP from 2012 -2015.
